Data Analysis

Data analysis is becoming one of the most important aspects of business today. Businesses want more insights into their operations to be able to make more informed data driven decisions.

Data analysis allows businesses to centralize their data and view it in ways that allow them to see historical, trending and in some instances predictive trending. This is designed to provide a greater amount of visibility which in turn allows businesses to make more responsive data driven decisions. Data can include data from inside the business such as sales, purchasing, financials or personnel productivity values. In some instances it may also include data from outside sources such as PPI, CPI, census or demographics related data.

Getting from start to finish with a data project involves 5 major milestones. Florida Small Business Services specializes in solutions for small to medium size businesses and not for profits. Whether you’re just starting to build a program or already have one in place and you need it audited or recreated. We can help you build a plan, create the tools and reports and finally provide the training to your personnel.

We've outlined each of these steps below which include planning, building, collecting, reporting and training. Each step is critical to the success of the program and depending on the amount of data and complexity can involve multiple sub-steps. The sections below outline those steps to give you some idea how we approach each one. Contact us today to get started.

Planning

We work with you to get an idea of where you’re at and where you’re going. This allows us to pick the right tool for the job. These tools can vary from an Excel spreadsheet to an Access database all the way to a custom web based solution with a SQL backend. We specialize in building Excel front ends with SQL backends using vba. This provides an incredibly powerful toolset that can be built on and supported more easily.

Building

After the plan is developed the build process can begin. This first requires examining the data sources being received. Then determining what, if any, special formatting is required, and determining the various relationships and mapping that may be required. Finally, the database can be built that will store all of the data.

Collecting

For a data analytics project this is one of the most critical steps. There’s a handful of things we look at in this step, among them are the file sizes, the frequency they are available or delivered, how the data will be imported and how much normalization may need to be done. If this step isn’t planned or executed correctly it will affect the reporting.

Reporting

The next to last step of the build involves the reports. You can think of this step like trying to tell a story. What are you trying to see? What about anomalies and outliers? There's a lot of intelligence that you can glean from data. The reporting is meant to answer these questions. We specialize in building interactive dashboard reports in Excel that allow you to view the data in a number of different ways. We'll work with you to identify each individual's or group's needs to ensure the reports you hand out are accurate and exactly what they need.

Training

The final step of the build involves training. All of the primary stakeholders should be invited. This them to understand the process, as well as how to create, process and maintain the data reports.
